Day One in Rome
We all slept well and were up by about 9am. We were eager to get out and see some things. Our apartment is in the heart of the historic center and near Piazza Navona (and a couple hundred feet from where we had pizza and great gelato last time we were here).

Roman roasted artichokes — incredible!

Seafood pasta.

We decided to have pizza at a place just 20 yards from our apartment, recommended by our landlord. It was great and we had fun. The waiter was very personable.

We finished dinner and headed back to the apartment. We have tickets for the Vatican Museums tomorrow.
We strolled through Piazza Navona, made a quick stop in a beautiful church, and then made our way towards the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. The fountain is undergoing a thorough cleaning which gave us a unique, upclose glimpse of it without water; they have a scaffolding and walkway which goes right over the top of it. It’s a very unique perspective.
We were all hungry so we found a restaurant that didn’t appear to be a tourist trap — Il Fachetto. We definitely chose well. It may have been one of the best meals we’ve ever had in Italy … so far.
We really lucked out: “Il Falchetto” translates to “The Little Hawk” in English. It’s one of Rome’s oldest restaurants, established in the late 19th century. Recognized as an “Antica Bottega Storica” for over a century of service, Il Falchetto is located at Via di Montecatini 12, 00186 Rome, Italy.

Cliff and Kristi had gnocchi — also fantastic.
After lunch we took a leisurely stroll back to the apartment, with a quick grocery store stop and gelato. We took a little siesta for the afternoon … it turned into a few hours nap. We’ve adjusted fairly quickly to the time change, but needed the rest. We walked about three miles.
Although the forecast was for rain, it only has drizzled a little, breaking up for some sunshine most of the time we were out.
After our nap we meandered back to Piazza Navona to see the Christmas market at night. We then sat down at a bar for an aperitif … wine spritzers.

Buona notte!
Oh my god that pizza is driving me crazy. What a wonderful day
